Deep within the captivating rolling meadows, lived a boy named Shepherd. His being was untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was essentially to look after his herd of ewes.
Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the gales across the solo tree on the mountaintop were his only associates. Day upon day, guarding his charges instilled in him a sense of calm satisfaction.
Yet, there were occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. During one such occasion because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a mischievous scheme.
Stories of wild beasts preying on sheep had been heard times and again in the hamlet. here So, the boy chose to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the villagers.
One morning he dashed into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but discovered no wolf.
The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This game persisted for a few days more. Yet, one day, a real wolf actually charge at the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the town only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of false alarms.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once violated, is hard to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
